Matt's STORY
Matt Avery’s expertise in the automotive industry stems from years of experience and dedication to the craft. As a veteran automotive journalist, photographer, and historian, Matt has made significant contributions to the field. After working as a repair technician for Mercedes-Benz and BMW, he began writing for the television show MotorWeek before joining the editorial team at Cars.com. Currently, he serves as the Executive Producer and host of On The Move for Mecum Auctions. Matt's long-running Classic Recollections column in the Chicago-based Daily Herald, along with his contributions to publications such as Hot Rod, MotorTrend, and Muscle Car Review, have established him as a respected figure in the automotive community. In addition to his writing and photography, Matt has contributed to the industry through his involvement with the Midwest Automotive Media Association and SEMA's Future Leaders Network. His book COPO, which features over 45 world-class collector vehicles processed through GM's Central Office, won a Silver Medal at the Automotive Heritage Awards in 2019. Matt's library of over 400 images, specifically captured for COPO, now resides in the archives at the General Motors Heritage Center. In 2020, he was recognized as one of the rising stars in the automotive industry, earning a spot on SEMA's '35 Under 35' list, and he continues to make significant contributions to the field.
